How It Works

  • Will a timber gate work reliably with an electric opener?

    Yes, provided the gate is built and fitted to suit the motor and the timber weight. The gate needs to be properly aligned so it opens and closes without placing strain on the motor. A site assessment confirms this before any automation hardware is specified.

  • What if the gate is already sagging or hard to open by hand?

    Sagging usually means the posts, hinges, or gate frame need attention before automation is added. The survey will show whether the existing gate can be adjusted or needs replacing. Automating a gate that already struggles will shorten the motor’s life significantly.

  • Can a gate be made for a wide or heavy driveway entrance?

    Yes. Wider or heavier gates need a higher-rated motor, reinforced posts, and heavier-duty hinges. The gate size, timber choice, posts, and motor are all matched during the survey, not assumed from the opening width alone.

  • What regulations apply to powered timber gates?

    Powered gates fall under Machinery Directive safety requirements and UKCA marking rules for relevant electrical equipment. Wiring must comply with BS 7671. Safety edges and photocells are specified to DHF standards, and the installation is fitted to Gate Safe standards on every job.

  • What is checked before the installation begins?

    Post condition, swing path clearance, gate weight, hinge alignment, and the available space for the motor and control panel are all assessed. After fitting, safety sensors are tested for obstruction response and the full open-and-close cycle is run to confirm limit settings.
