How It Works

  • Can my existing gate be automated without replacing it?

    Often yes. The gate needs to be checked for weight, alignment, hinge condition, and how it opens. If the structure is sound, a motor and control box can be added without changing the gate itself. If there is sag or binding, minor repair work is identified at survey stage before any hardware is ordered.

  • Will automation work on a heavy wrought iron or timber gate?

    Heavy gates are common candidates for retrofitting, but the motor must be rated for the gate’s weight. The survey confirms the leaf weight and selects an operator with the correct torque rating. If the gate sags or binds, that is addressed before the motor is fitted.

  • Are safety sensors required, or are they optional?

    Safety edges and photocells are included in every retrofit specification to meet DHF standards. A powered gate without safety sensors creates a crush risk and does not comply with the standards that apply to automated gate installations.

  • What is the difference between a swing gate and a sliding gate retrofit?

    Swing gates use ram or underground operators fitted to the hinge side of each leaf. Sliding gates use a rack-and-pinion or underground drive unit running along the gate’s travel path. The hardware, wiring, and setup are different, which is why the gate type is confirmed at survey before any equipment is selected.

  • What happens if there is a power cut?

    Every installation includes a manual release, demonstrated at handover. This lets the gate be opened and closed by hand without tools or a call-out, so a power cut does not leave the entrance blocked or stuck open.
